RESUME

Carol Case Siracuse studied printmaking and drawing with Leonard Baskin at Smith College before undertaking her architectural training at Harvard Graduate School of Design, and Princeton University. She practiced architecture in Boston, and Ithaca and opened her own firm in Chautauqua County, Western New York in 1980. In 2001 she moved to Buffalo, NY to become the educational planner, and vice president at Cannon Design, retiring in 2010 after 38 years of practice.

A signature member of Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, she has been its president, and continues to act as exhibition chairperson, webmaster and Facebook page administrator. (Carol enjoys communicating!) She is an Exhibiting Member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, and Western New York Artists Group. A group show with Sara M. Zak and Chris Hawley, entitled Buffalo – a work in progress, in January 2015 at Studio Hart on Allen Street in Buffalo was a big success.  In June 2014 she showed her travel sketchbooks, and paintings at a 4-person show with Catherine Tillou, Julie McIndoo and Michael Killelea at Dana Tillou’s Gallery at Franklin and Virginia in Buffalo. Her images of Buffalo and her travels have also been shown in solo shows at the Stuyvesant Gallery, at My Sister’s Gallery at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester, NY and at Betty’s Restaurant, Captured Travels, in Buffalo. She is  represented by Tesori in Williamsville, NY. She has been accepted into juried shows for the Adirondack National Exhibition of American Watercolors, the BSA, WNYAG and NFWS, and won the Gold Medal in the BSA’s Fall 2015 Catalogue Show.  Her work is in the collection of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the Castellani Art Center at Niagara University. Her travel sketchbooks have informed and delighted art lovers and travel buffs around the world. She posts her sketches and paintings on Facebook on her own page and on the pages Sketching Workshop and Pure Watercolor.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“I have read that art is a reflection of ourselves and how we “see” life. This means so much more to me today than it would have a few years ago. Since retiring from the practice of architecture, I feel I’ve been reborn as an artist! My challenge today is to create drawings and paintings that combine my love of graphic and linear elements with my new found fascination with color. Today I can “draw on” my background as a printmaker and as an architect, applying these skills to my paintings and journal sketches. I can express my creative side in pen, pencil and watercolor, giving form to my visions and my passions, the landscape of our travels and home environment. . This challenge and my creative urges will keep me occupied forever more. What a privilege. My reward is simply contentment.”
